Primeau Consulting Group Buyer Map
Kristen Borth | Primeau Consulting Group | November 2026
As of 03 Nov 2026
Primeau Consulting Group helps hospitals, medical centers and clinics with health information management, revenue cycle performance, regulatory compliance and transitional leadership.
This map lays out the kinds of organizations that buy that work, roughly how many there are, and who usually signs off inside each one. It describes the market, not anyone's internals.
Where your buyers sit
Counted at the organization level and banded on purpose. A group with no clean public count says so.
| Group | Organizations in the US | Under 20 staff | 20 to 99 | 100 to 499 | 500 or more |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| General medical and surgical hospitals | about 2,600 | not published | not published | not published | not published |
| Psychiatric, substance use and other specialty hospitals | about 750 | not published | not published | not published | not published |
| Physician practices and medical groups | about 130,000 | about 120,000 | about 12,000 | about 2,100 | about 1,000 |
| Ambulatory surgery and other outpatient care centers | about 17,000 | about 12,000 | about 2,600 | about 1,100 | about 950 |
| Multi-hospital health systems and their regional HIM teams | no clean public count |
US firm counts by industry code, banded deliberately.
Who signs off, by service line
Your site groups its work into these lines. The budget usually sits one level above the person who feels the problem.
| Service line on your site | Usually signs off | Often brings it in |
|---|---|---|
| Revenue Cycle Assessment and denials prevention | Chief Financial Officer or VP of Revenue Cycle | Director of Revenue Cycle, Director of Patient Financial Services |
| Coding and clinical documentation integrity, education programs | VP of Revenue Cycle or Chief Medical Officer | Coding Manager, CDI Manager, Physician Advisor |
| Transitional and interim HIM leadership | Chief Financial Officer or Chief Operating Officer | HIM Director, Regional HIM Director, Human Resources |
| HIPAA privacy and security, information governance, interoperability | Chief Compliance Officer | Privacy Officer, Chief Information Security Officer |
| AI governance consulting and assessment | Chief Compliance Officer or Chief Information Officer | Chief Medical Information Officer, Privacy Officer |
| HI projects, technology implementation, social determinants of health | Chief Information Officer or Chief Operating Officer | HIM Director, Director of Clinical Informatics, Population Health Director |
How the groups differ
| Group | Who signs | What tends to move them |
|---|---|---|
| General medical and surgical hospitals | CFO for revenue cycle, Chief Compliance Officer for privacy and AI, HIM Director as the daily owner | An HIM leadership gap, a denial trend, a new compliance rule or an audit finding |
| Psychiatric and specialty hospitals | CEO or CFO, often with one person holding compliance and privacy together | Lean HIM and compliance teams that need expert help without a full hire |
| Physician practices and medical groups | Practice Administrator, with the managing physician on larger spend | Coding accuracy, denials, provider documentation education, HIPAA risk assessment |
| Ambulatory surgery and outpatient centers | Administrator or Business Office Director | Prior authorization workflows, coding audits, HIPAA risk assessment |
| Multi-hospital health systems | System VP of Revenue Cycle, System HIM Director, Chief Compliance Officer | Coverage across several sites, system go-lives, one AI policy across every facility |
Reading the roles
In most hospitals the HIM Director owns the daily work your services touch, but the spend is approved by the CFO, the COO or the Chief Compliance Officer. A first conversation with the HIM or revenue cycle lead and a second with the executive above them is the usual path.
In smaller hospitals, specialty hospitals and outpatient centers one person often holds several of these roles at once, so the same leader can feel the problem and approve the fix.
Where to start
Use transitional HIM coverage as the door
Offer the AI governance assessment on its own
Built from public federal registries and the company's own website, counts banded deliberately.
